FY 2010 Outline of Overseas Construction Contracts
Overall trends in contracts
Member companies concluded 1,674 overseas construction contracts in FY 2010, for a total value of 907.2 billion yen. This represents an increase of 391 contracts from the previous fiscal year, and an increase of 210.3 billion yen (+30.2%) in value over the same period.
The amount of contracts concluded with Parent Companies (PC) increased by 34.8 billion yen (+8.3%) to 455.7 billion yen, while the amount of contracts concluded with Overseas Affiliated Companies (OAC) increased substantially by 175.5 billion yen (+63.6%) to 451.5 billion yen.
Contracts by region shows that contracts in the Asia region (up 166.4 billion yen, or 31.2%), the Middle East region (up 17.9 billion yen, or 200%), North America region (up 7.7 billion yen, or 8.1%), Eastern Europe region (up 2.5 billion yen, or 17.3%), Central and South America region (up 9.1 billion yen, or 134%), and Africa region (up 14.5 billion yen, or 98.2%) increased, while those in the Western Europe region (down 5.4 billion yen, or 62.0%) and Oceania region (down 2.5 billion yen, or 18.7%) decreased.
Contracts by source of funding shows increases in self-funded contracts (up 281.1 billion yen, or 50.3%) and those funded by grant aid (up 4 billion yen, or 8.1%), while those funded by yen loans decreased (by 75.1 billion yen, or 85.5%).
Contracts by type of client shows that while contracts with private-sector clients increased (by 249.5 billion yen, or 66.6%), those with public-sector clients fell (by 39.2 billion yen, or 12.2%).
Contracts by type of contract shows that while construction contracts (up 118.7 billion yen, or 23.2%), design-build contracts (up 96.4 billion yen, or 54.8%), PM/CM contracts (up 2.1 billion yen), and technical advise contracts (up 612 million yen) all showed increases, turnkey contracts showed a decrease (by 539 million yen, or 88.7%).

Trends among PC and OAC
Total contracts separated into those concluded with PC and those concluded with OAC shows that contracts with PC totaled 521 in number and 455.7 billion yen in value, reflecting increases over the previous fiscal year of 114 in number and 34.8 billion yen (8.3%) in value. Contracts with PC by region shows increases in contracts in the Middle East region (up 17.9 billion yen), Africa region (up 14.5 billion yen), Asia region (up 11.2 billion yen), and Central and South America region (up 3.6 billion yen), while those in the North America region (down 8.4 billion yen), Oceania region (down 2.7 billion yen), and Eastern Europe region (down 1.2 billion yen) decreased.
At the same time, contracts with OAC totaled 1,153 in number and 451.5 billion yen in value, for increases of 277 in number and 175.5 billion yen (63.6%) in value over the previous fiscal year. Contracts with OAC by region shows increases in those in the Asia region (up 155.3 billion yen), North America region (up 16.2 billion yen), Central and South America region (up 5.5 billion yen), Eastern Europe region (up 3.7 billion yen), and Oceania region (up 230 million yen), while those in the Western Europe region decreased (by 5.4 billion yen).
Comparison of the values of contracts with PC and with OAC shows a 50:50 split, reflecting a decrease in the share of PC and an increase in the share of OAC from the previous fiscal year's 60:40 split.

Trends by region
Total contracts by region shows that contracts in the Asia region totaled 1,354 in number and 700.8 billion yen in value, for increases from the previous fiscal year in both number (up 347 contracts) and value (up 166.4 billion yen, or 31.2%).
Contracts in this region by type of client shows that contracts with public-sector clients decreased by 392 billion yen to 283.0 billion yen (-12.1%) while those with private-sector clients increased by 249.2 billion yen to 375.0 billion yen (+66.4%).
Contracts in the North America region totaled 115 in number and 103.1 billion yen in value, for an increase of 20 in number from the previous fiscal year and an increase in value of 7.7 billion yen (+8.1%) over the same period.
Contracts in this region by type of client shows that contracts with public-sector clients decreased by 4.8 billion yen to 38.8 billion yen (-11.2%) while those with private-sector clients increased by 12.6 billion yen to 64.3 billion yen (+24.4%).
Contracts in the Middle East region totaled 23 in number and 26.9 billion yen in value, for an increase of one in number from the previous fiscal year and more than three times increase of 17.9 billion yen in value over the same period.
Contracts in this region by type of client shows that contracts with public-sector clients increased by 6.4 billion yen to 86.9 billion yen (+287.2%) and those with private-sector clients also increased by 11.5 billion yen to 18.2 billion yen (+171.0%).
Contracts in the Western Europe region totaled 36 in number and 3.3 billion yen in value, for an increase of four in number from the previous fiscal year, although contracts in this region decreased by 5.4 billion yen in value (-62.0%) over the same period.
Contracts in this region by type of client shows that contracts with public-sector clients decreased slightly by 50 million yen while those with private-sector clients decreased by 5.3 billion yen to 3.3 billion yen.
Contracts in the Eastern Europe region totaled 36 in number and 17.1 billion yen in value, for a decrease of 20 contracts in number, but an increase of 2.5 billion yen (+17.3%) in value from the previous fiscal year.
Contracts in this region by type of client shows that contracts with public-sector clients decreased by 100 million yen to 1.3 billion yen (-8.5%), while those with private-sector clients increased by 2.6 billion yen to 15.8 billion yen (+20.1%).
Contracts in the Central and South America region totaled 33 in number and 15.9 billion yen in value, for an increase of 10 in number from the previous fiscal year and a roughly two times increase in value to 9.1 billion yen (+133.3%) over the same period.
Contracts in this region by type of client shows that contracts with public-sector clients increased by 1.5 billion yen to 5.3 billion yen (+40.9%), while those with private-sector clients also increased, by 7.6 billion yen to 10.6 billion yen (+247.6%).
Contracts in the Africa region increased by 14.5 billion yen to 29.3 billion yen (+98.2%), while those in the Oceania region decreased by 2.5 billion yen to 10.8 billion yen (-18.7%).
