Iino Building

The high-performance tenanted housing is very energy effcient and reduces CO2 emissions by adopting a double-skinned exterior for drawing in natural air.

A building in Central Tokyo was renovated into another with five floors below ground and 27 above for primary use to house tenants. The objectives were to lengthen its service life, ensure high environmental quality and conserve the urban environment. The latest environmental techniques, such as the installation of a double-skinned exterior and the incorporation of natural ventilation and lighting, were employed. In a large tenant housing building in which saving energy was considered more difficult than in one’s own building, CO2 emissions were reduced by about half.
