Yunishigawa Dam

In the large dam construction, construction period was greatly reduced using an advanced roller compacted concrete dam method, and the concrete production and transport capacity was also improved.

Junko RCD method, which places roller compacted concrete before external concrete, was adopted for placing dam concrete. Restrictions on the time between lifts of concrete were greatly moderated and the construction period was considerably reduced.
The hourly in-situ concrete manufacturing capacity was 360 m3. For transporting the manufactured concrete to the site of placement with a large difference in elevation, two 15-ton-class cable cranes and a device for transporting concrete while rotating the piping (SP-TOM) were employed.

Junko RCD method
Conventional RCD (roller compacted concrete dam) method is used for placing concrete for roller compacted concrete dam at the center after the placement of external concrete. Time between lifts is, therefore, limited and mix proportions change frequently. As a result, high efficiency cannot be achieved. In the Junko RCD method, concrete for the roller compacted concrete dam is placed first, followed by the placement of external concrete. Restrictions on the time between lifts are greatly moderated and continuous placement becomes possible. In case of a rain during concrete placement, placement may be suspended at a desired timing. The Junko RCD method reduced the construction period by eight days in two months.
