The first urban transport railway in the Middle East with its ever-increasing population was completed in Dubai within the United Arab Emirates. The Red Line (52.1km) and Green Line (23.8km) have come to serve as a new means of transport for residents and tourists alike in Dubai. More than 400,000 passengers use the railway every day. The full turnkey project including construction, vehicle delivery and systems installation was mostly implemented by Japanese businesses. It became a agship project demonstrating the technical and managerial competence of Japanese companies. Construction on the Red Line commenced in August 2005, while the Green Line was completed in August 2011. Thus, the project was completed in the relatively short period of about six years.
