【Introduction of the project】
Mombasa Port is not only for the Kenya's international port but also the largest port in East Africa. This port functions as the important for Kenya's imports and exports and a necessary in logistics for neighboring countries such as Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, among others.

Mombasa Port currently handles 1.65 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), marking 1.8 times increase over the past decade since 2012. Moreover, it has surged by six times when compared from 2002. Expected a continual rise in demand for the future.

To meet this escalating demand, a new container terminal has been constructed with the support of the Japanese government. This new container terminal, comprising phases one and two, has expanded the capacity by over 1 million TEUs. Incorporating significant Japanese expertise, the terminal adopts various technologies such as the installation of 35 to 50-meter-long steel pipe piles, anti-corrosion measures for the piles, soil improvement works, and advanced techniques for soil improvement works. These efforts aim to create a container terminal with long-term durability.

Through the transfer and sharing of Japanese technologies, this project is anticipated to contribute to the economic development of Kenya and East Africa, fostering autonomous economic growth. Additionally, it is expected to encourage the expansion of Japanese private companies into Kenya, boosting. This collaborative effort is envisioned to establish a co-creative partnership between both countries, fostering mutual growth and a friendly relationship.
